Battles/Contests
Here on Pokemon Inula our goal is to have this be a fun experience. Part of that is not having an over-complicated battling system. On this guide you will find explanations for any kind of battle that you could think of. Please, respect and follow our easy guidelines for battles. Having an easier, less of a hassle, system is a privilege. If it is abused, a more complicated, harder to understand, system will be set into place. I don't want that, the rest of the staff don't want that, and I'm sure you don't want that. So let's have fun and respect our system!
Pokemon Contests
This will by far be our easiest battles. We will be running contests as they do in the anime. The first round of Pokemon Contests is the appeals round, where a trainer has their Pokemon do pretty moves. This will be limited to a single post. We will have judges for every Pokemon contest deciding who goes on, so it is suggested that your posts aren't too short or too long. After it is decided who will be moving on, there will be contest battles. The scoring will be the same as in the anime, except you won't know exactly how you are doing until the end. The judges will be reading through all of your posts in a contest battle when determining the winner. A more in-depth contest guide will be available when we have a contest. Also, your Pokemon cannot faint in contest battles like they do in the Anime. This will be enforced greatly.
Unofficial Battles
Are you having an unofficial battle with a friend? That will be very easy. We don't have levels or HP here on Pokemon Inula. The winner of this battle won't exactly affect the website, so we will leave it to you who wins. We only ask that you be practical. If a new trainer is going against a trainer with four gym badges, who do you think is going to win...? Exactly. If you're about the same length into your journeys, then perhaps just talk it over and decide who is going to win this one. Maybe one trainer will win this time, and the other will win next time? Maybe you want to do an automatic coin flipper online? Maybe you want to plot so that one of your characters doesn't beat the other until the end of their journey? The choice is all yours!
Battles with wild Pokemon
You should make a single post where you catch a new Pokemon. This post should be a decent length. It can be in a new thread that only has one post, or it can be in a thread you roleplay with a someone else. You will roleplay the wild Pokemon in your post as well, deciding what they do. All we ask is that you have a decent battle before catching your Pokemon. Maybe you don't catch it the first try. Maybe it really wanted to join you because it had a crush on your Pokemon. We don't really care, just don't have a one liner saying you caught a Bidoof. I will throw a book at you. Also, Pokemon you catch should be in their first evolutionary stage, unless it isn't a big deal. What do I mean by that? I don't care if you catch a Dustox. I really don't. Just don't go running around catching Mamoswine. I will then throw two books at you. While we are on the topic of evolution, this will be kind of up to you, but be reasonable. Don't have your Pokemon evolve the day after you catch it, I mean come on! What's the fun in that? Also, have your Pokemon start off with basic moves. If your little Bidoof knows Hyper Beam right off the back I will throw three books at you. Your Pokemon can only know four moves at a time.
Official Battles
This is the grey area. The winner of this battle really DOES matter! Maybe you're battling a Gym Leader. Maybe you're taking on the Elite Four. Maybe you got to the point where you can battle the Champion! You care about the outcome of this battle, and so do we. To be as fair as possible, we have decided to go by the following system: You both will always get down to your last Pokemon. Always. So, when will your other two Pokemon faint? That is up to you, but we suggest doing it gracefully. If you are in a Gym Battle, and you decide not to have your first Pokemon faint until your opponents first two Pokemon fainted, your second Pokemon won't even stand a chance. Give your Pokemon equal time to have the spotlight! It will look better. For gym battles, we will have an impartial judge there to decide who deserves to win on the last Pokemon of each trainer. That doesn't mean your writing and Pokemon have to be so much better than your opponents, it just means that your character is all in in the battle. Do your best, and you will probably get a badge. If you are in the Pokemon League, there will be three judges. Expect these to be harder to win. You need good writing, good Pokemon, and good character. Also, be reasonable when dodging. You should not be dodging all attacks that come at your Pokemon. Take some hits, or I promise that you will lose. In addition, you may not have your Pokemon evolve during an official battle. They must evolve in a thread outside of an official battle.
GENERAL NOTE
You will have to keep track of how many ribbons/badges you have and where you got them. You can try to fit this in your profile or in your bio. If you ever want to challenge the Pokemon League or enter the Grand Festival, you will need proof of you getting your badges and ribbons with links to their threads.
